WXStar - Weather Data

WXStar Weather Data

Having WXStar and a Starlink Mini, European pilots finally get the comfort and safety US pilots have experienced for years with their FIS-B system.

The system is designed to transmit all data types at least once every 5 minutes. After power up, you should receive a full set of data about 5 minutes after the internet connection is established by the Starlink Mini.

Notes on Specific Products

  • Radar: avionics typically merge regional (high-res, local) and continental (low-res, wide) into one display.
  • Cloud Tops: derived from satellite imagery + GFS temperatures; colored by altitude up to FL245.
  • Icing / Turbulence: GFS-based predictions at multiple layers up to FL245.
  • METAR / TAF: all reporting airports in a wide area around your position, including adjacent countries.
  • Winds & Temperatures: many airports in your area. Note: some avionics only handle US waypoints — apps like Garmin Pilot work worldwide.

What Can Your Avionics Display?

The data you can see depends on your avionics capabilities:

  • Older avionics (legacy G1000, G500, GPS695 etc.): Usually radar, METAR, TAF
  • G1000 / G1000 NXi: Radar, METAR, TAF (no cloud tops or lightning due to Garmin limitation)
  • G3X, GTN750 etc.: Usually all data products

  • Please check your specific avionics documentation for supported weather products.
